Ten million compensation for business man shot by DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally compensated a businessman who was mistakenly shot in 2016 during a raid. Initially ordered to pay ₦10 million by the court in 2018, the DSS delayed payment for six years but recently settled the amount, doubling it to ₦20 million as a goodwill gesture. The incident caused severe financial and personal hardship for the victim, who lost his business and home.   The operatives were in search of a suspected gunrunner who shared the same last name with the man but ended up shooting him on the thigh only to discover he was not the suspect they were after. The operatives later that day arrested the actual suspect and transferred him to Abuja. But after shooting the businessman, they realised their mistake and rushed him to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) where they abandoned him. As if that was not enough, the man was left untreated due to doctors’ strike and was eventually moved to a military hospital. Life took a ...

UK- Based Nigeria Doctor filmed selling jobs to foreigners

A UK-based Nigerian doctor, Dr Kelvin Alaneme, was secretly filmed by the British Broadcasting Corporation in an undercover investigation, allegedly selling fake job opportunities to foreign nationals. The BBC stated that it launched its undercover investigation following a series of online complaints about his service. According to the report, CareerEdu describes itself as a “launchpad for global opportunities catering to young Africans” and claims to have 9,800 “happy clients.” The investigation revealed that Dr Alaneme attempted to recruit the BBC journalist, believing she had strong connections in the UK care sector. He was said to have offered the BBC undercover reporter a role as an agent for his business, promising she could make a fortune by securing care home vacancies. “Just get me care homes. I can make you ...

Nigeria vs Zimbabwe: No Osimhen No Party and 2 other lessons from the disappointing draw

The Super Eagles failed to do the job against Zimbabwe, settling for another 1-1 draw after conceding late in the game. Here are the lessons from the game. Victor Osimhen, who scored a brace in  Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Rwanda  last Friday, headed home a fine cross from Ola Aina to put the Super Eagles ahead before Zimbabwe equalised via Tawanda Chirewa in the 90th minute. The draw leaves the Super Eagles with just seven points after six matches, with the dream of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup now almost fading away. Here are the things we learnt in the draw  One thing is clear, Osimhen is the main man in the Super Eagles. Not like anyone will likely argue that point by now but it needs to be echoed to the end of the world.  The striker missed Nigeria’s opening four matches of the 2026 WCQ through injury, and the team failed to win a single game without him.  His goals are the real deal, but his presence, leadership and energy are what lifts the teams even ...
